I’m Courtney and I’m a first year PhD student in aerospace engineering at UNSW Canberra, Australia. For my PhD, I’m looking at injecting secondary fluids into the side of spacecraft nozzles to deflect the thrust. If sufficient deflection angles can be achieved, this method may reduce the number of thrusters required for certain maneuvers or provide an alternative to mechanically vectored main engines. I’m very interested in planetary science and space exploration in general, which largely influenced my decision to enter the aerospace field. As an engineer, I love the unique design challenges introduced by the space environment and I can think of nothing more exciting than the possibility of contributing (even in a small way) to the exploration of our universe.
